Giving With Heart
According to Bill Webster, initially he was a hesitant board member. But the more he got involved, the more he saw how Memorial Medical Center Foundation benefits the hospitals and its patients, and stewards donors' gifts with utmost care.
"I was hooked after that," Bill, a retired emergency physician, says.
He went on to serve 12 years on Memorial Medical Center Foundation's Board of Directors, including a term as chair. Today, he is Chairman of the Long Beach Medical Center Governing Board.
Bill and his wife, Judy, also are longtime hospital donors. When they established their trust a few years ago, they included a bequest to the Foundation, extending their commitment to excellent healthcare in our community for future generations. In addition to such initiatives as medical education, research, and patient programs, Memorial Medical Center Foundation helps fund vital medical equipment purchases.
"We once funded a vein finder for the Emergency Department," Bill says. "It can be hard to start an IV, especially for elderly patients or children. I remember how difficult it could be when I worked there. This new piece of equipment definitely helped."
Although Bill and Judy support other charities, Memorial Medical Center Foundation rises above others.
"It is my main charity," Bill says. "It has my heart."
